There is one more type of beauty that I feel worth mentioning. Fugly. Actresses who are so ugly, they’re kind of pretty, or have a flint edge to their good looks. Here, I think of Katharine Hepburn, Laura Linney, Emmanuelle Devos and Catherine Keener. The good thing about being beautiful and ugly at the same time is of course, that you can play a beauty or a beast, thus displaying their versatility and earn my respect. And that is an accolade greater than being considered pretty.
